Jackson County S.O investigating sex crimes against kids

PASCAGOULA – In two separate cases, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department arrested two men this week, including a 17-year old, for allegedly having sex with minor children. James Michael Hammons, a teenager from Moss Point, was charged as an adult on April 18 with two counts of sexual battery.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said on April 7, his department was contacted by the mother of Hammons’ alleged 13-year old victim, saying that Hammons had sex with her underage daughter.

Byrd said Hammons and the girl knew each other.

Hammons, who lives in the 7700 block of Carter Road, was arrested about 11:30 a.m. Monday, without incident, at East Central High School in Hurley.

Hammons was later transferred to the adult detention center where his bond was set at $20,000.

Sheriff Byrd said his office is also conducting an ongoing investigation of John Clifton Watson, Jr. Watson, 42, was arrested on April 15 after two boys, aged 10 and 11, said they were sexually battered by Watson.

Byrd said the allegations against Watson were first reported on March 4.

Watson, who lives on 16th Avenue, in Gulfport, was arrested without incident at his home.

His bond was also set at $20,000.
