JACKSON – A Hinds County employee has been indicted for allegedly accepting bribes, Attorney General Jim Hood said.

Steven Craig Walter, 51, of Jackson was indicted by a Hinds County Grand Jury for two counts of accepting bribes from defendants to fix cases while employed as a clerk at the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office.

Walter was arrested on those charges by investigators with the Attorney General’s Public Integrity Division in August. He was served with the indictment on Sept. 6, and turned himself in to the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office.

He was released on a $50,000 bond.

If convicted, Walter faces up to 20 years behind bars (10 years on each count).
