Gov. Barbour declares State of Emergency in several North Miss. Counties

National Guard called to aid emergency response

JACKSON – Governor Haley Barbour today declared a State of Emergency in several Mississippi counties damaged by severe spring storms, flooding and tornadoes. He also ordered the Mississippi National Guard to aid local officials with emergency response.

The counties affected include: Benton, Lafayette, Panola, Tippah and Union. The State of Emergency order allows emergency responders to efficiently utilize resources and receive state aid to respond to the emergency situation.

“Our prayers are with those families who were impacted this weekend by these dangerous storms that traveled through the state,” Governor Barbour said. “State emergency officials are working quickly to aid local responders with recovery efforts.”
