Former cop indicted for oral sex with teenager

News Briefs From Across The State

Suspect being held on a $25,000 bond

A former Biloxi police officer has been indicted by a Harrison County Grand Jury for allegedly having oral sex with a teenager. The indictment says that on or about June 2010, Darian Llewellyn Anderson “did willfully and purposefully commit sexual battery upon a child between the ages of 14 and 16” by performing oral sex on the girl.

The indictment further said Anderson was not on duty at the time of crime and he knew the teenager through her older sister.

Anderson resigned his position as a police officer on Aug. 17, 2010 and the Harrison County Grand Jury signed the indictment in November 2010.

Anderson was arrested last week. His bond has been set at $25,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on March 21.

Fog blamed for fatal crash

Authorities said fog may be the reason a Bay St. Louis man pulled out of a parking lot and into the path of an oncoming car. Sixty-two year old Lloyd Richard Higgins was reportedly coming out of the old Sav-A-Center parking lot on U.S. Highway 603 when he was struck by Mark Anthony Philyaw of Carriere.

Philyaw, 48, told officers he was traveling south, but didn’t see Higgins’ white sedan when Higgins pulled out in front of him.

Higgins was stabilized at Hancock Medical Center, but faced complications on his way to USA Medical Center in Mobile. He was taken to Singing River Hospital instead where he died from his injuries.

Mississippi lawyer and 2 ex-judges permanently disbarred

Imprisoned former Mississippi attorney Paul Minor and two former judges have been disbarred by the Mississippi Supreme Court.

Minor and Harrison County judges John Whitfield and Wes Teel were convicted of corruption in federal court in 2007. The men are in prison serving various sentences.

The trio is set for re-sentencing next month because a federal appeals court threw out some of their convictions. The appeals court upheld honest services fraud convictions against each of the men and Minor’s racketeering conviction.

The Mississippi Supreme Court disbarred them for having felony convictions.

Their licenses had been suspended since 2008.
