Father wanted in Louisiana

A man and his son have been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly beating a man at a wedding reception. Authorities said 41-year old Joseph Penton, of Vancleave, and his son, 24-year old Joseph Edward Peco were arrested after an altercation with Penton’s brother, Herman Penton, at a wedding reception in Vancleave.

Reportedly, all three men were at the wedding reception when a physical fight broke out between them. Penton and his son allegedly started beating Herman with a PVC pipe and a tire iron.

Herman was transported to a local hospital where Sheriff Mike Byrd said he received several stitches in his face and head.

After the assault, authorities said Penton and his son fled into the woods behind the house where the reception was being held, and they were captured coming out of the woods by two deputies.

Bond for both men was set at $20,000 and Penton is being held for a probation violation in Covington, LA.

22-year old Gautier man killed in motorcycle accident

Ocean Springs police are investigation a single-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a Gautier man. John Tyler McIlrath was pronounced dead at the scene after Detective Lt. John Flowers said he crashed on his motorcycle.

Flowers said the incident occurred about 9 p.m. on June 23 on Halstead Road near Havard Drive.

Teens break into car lot, found hiding in car

A 14 and a 15-year old from Jackson County were arrested and charged with commercial burglary after they allegedly broke into a car lot. Authorities said while making a routine business check, two deputies noticed an open window at a small car lot on Lemoyne Boulevard in the St. Martin Community.

After further inspection, the deputies discovered the window had been broken and there was shattered glass along the porch and interior of the building. The deputies did a walk through of the property to determine if any vehicles had been burglarized and they discovered the two teens hiding in the front seat of a vehicle. The teens were also in possession of the key to the vehicle which they allegedly stole from the office.

Both teens were transported to the Jackson County Youth Detention Facility.

Suspects held without bond for McDonald’s shooting

The case of two men being held without bond for shooting a man and a woman at a local McDonald’s will be presented to the grand jury, authorities said. Seventeen-year old Justin Patterson and 17-year old Devon Modacure, were charged with aggravated assault after an incident that took place on June 10.

Officer Colendula Green, of the Jackson Police Department said the shooting took place about 10:08 p.m. at the restaurant at 3903 Hanging Moss Road.

Green said two people, a black male, later identified as Dontrey Baker, and an unidentified woman were both shot in the parking lot, and the suspects fled in an unknown direction of travel.

They were later taken into custody and charged.

Green said the victims were treated and released at a local hospital and the investigation is ongoing.
