Doctor accused of sexual battery

COLUMBUS – A doctor highly regarded by the Lowndes County community has been arrested and charged with sexual battery. Dr. Min Sang Kim, an internal medicine specialist at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, was arrested at his office last week by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s department.

Kim’s ex-wife, Un Suk Kim, claims that he sexually assaulted her a few days before they met at the Silverstar Casino in Philadelphia.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, Un Suk told police the assault happened at her home in Columbus. She then said she drove the family to the casino in her ex-husband’s car, which had been awarded to him during their divorce settlement, three months prior to the alleged sexual assault. Un Suk said they met in Philadelphia and had dinner with their two children.

Kim’s attorney, however, said the allegations are merely an attempt to “railroad” a man with an unblemished career, the Columbus Dispatch said.

David Owen, Kim’s attorney, said Kim has practiced in Columbus for six years, and has a “stellar record as a healer of the elderly,” in a town that prides itself as a retirement community.

“Columbus cannot afford the loss of such a physician at the hands of incompetent law enforcement,” Owen told the Columbus Dispatch. “They ought to hang their head in shame. These charges will not be prosecuted, I don’t think.”

Kim’s bond was set at $25,000, which he posted the same day of his arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 10.
