Teens temporarily take over detention center

Captain Mick Sears said the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating an attempted escape from the Jackson County Youth Court Detention Facility that left two officers injured.

Sears said the incident occurred just after 9:30 p.m. on July 6 at the facility on Telephone Road. Pascagoula police notified the sheriff’s department that a “Take Over” style escape was occurring.

Sears said at least three intake personnel employees were overpowered and held captive inside the complex while at least six juveniles tried to escape.

With the assistance of intake personnel, responding Pascagoula patrol officers were able to enter the secured facility and restore order with a minimal amount of force. The officers also assisted in placing the juveniles back in their individual cells.

During the attempted escape, two detention officers were injured and treated at Singing River Hospital.

Reportedly, everyone involved was unarmed and the incident was over quickly.

Okolona man charged with numerous car thefts

A 28-year old man from Okolona reportedly turned himself in after a string of burglaries in Chickasaw County. Marcus Wilson allegedly paid wrecker services to tow vehicles from various locations without the owners knowledge or consent, WTVA reported.

Wilson then allegedly took the vehicles to varying salvage yards to scrap them for cash. Police said he did this at least four times.

Wilson’s bond has not been set, and police expect more charges to be filed against him.
