On tax day, April 15 from 4-6 pm on the south steps of the state capitol
building in Jackson, MS, conservative grassroots organizations and free
market activists, joined by political and community leaders, will come
together to protest out-of-control government spending and borrowing and to
offer positive solutions that will work for America.
Timed to coincide with the date that working Americans must pay their
federal income taxes, the Mississippi Tea Party is coordinated by the
Mississippi grassroots group known as Freedom First in conjunction with Newt
Gingrich’s group, American Solutions.
The goal is to call attention to the unprecedented taxing, borrowing and
wasteful spending by Congress and the President. Among others, Lt. Governor
Phil Bryant will address the gathering.
When asked about the need for nationwide rallies based on the Boston Tea
Party of 1773, Kim Wade of Freedom First remarked, “Building on the free
market ideas of our founding fathers, and embracing the passion they shared
to bring them to light, the Mississippi Tea Party is giving a real voice to
working Mississippians. Mark Mayfield added, “Average Americans do not
support mortgaging away our children’s futures with never ending bailouts
using taxpayer money and unsustainable trillion dollar deficits, which
eventually will bankrupt our nation. Now is the time to stand up and let
our elected officials know we’ve had enough.”
