Worker became angry with reporter

An Aberdeen city employee has been arrested for allegedly hitting a news reporter during a board meeting earlier this week. Leo Gibson, the head of the cemetery department in Aberdeen turned himself in to authorities for allegedly assaulting Jeff Clark after being questioned by the reporter.

Clark filed a complaint with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and the Monroe County Justice Clerk the following day.

The sheriff’s department contacted Gibson, who promptly surrendered to authorities. Gibson’s bond was set at $500, which he posted and was released

Man charged in toddler’s death

A 24-year old man has been officially charged with murder after the 2-year old he allegedly assaulted died. Bond for Justin Archie Clearman was set at $500,000, and later reduced to $250,000 after the death of his girlfriend’s son, Landon Tanner.

Tanner died of blunt force trauma to the head after an incident with Clearman nearly two weeks ago.

Tanner was transported to a Meridian hospital where the emergency staff reported his injuries to authorities. Tanner was later transferred to a Jackson hospital where he died.

Clearman told authorities the toddler fell and hit his head, but an investigation determined that Clearman may have been involved.

An autopsy on Tanner has been ordered.

Quitman County youth organization gets $1 million grant

Congressman Bennie Thompson said The United States Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $1,014,493 to Youth Opportunities Unlimited, Inc., of Quitman County to fund their Delta DREEAM (Daring to Excel through Education, Advocacy and Modeling).
