Arrest made in drive-by that killed Greenwood man

GREENWOOD – Investigators with the Greenwood Police Department have made an arrest in connection with a drive-by shooting that killed a local man and injured another. Ondra Robinson has been charged with accessory after the fact in the murder of 27-year old Marcus Willis. Willis was shot several times on March 21, in what police are calling an ambush on Hunters Alley and McLaurin Street. One of his passengers, and reportedly, his cousin, Larry Greene, 19, was shot in the leg.

Printed reports said Willis was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Suburban, occupied by Greene and two other men Lamarcus Rhodes and Thomas Ollie. The shooting occurred around 2:15 a.m., when Willis was reportedly taking Green home. Rhodes and Ollie told police they ducked down when shots rang out and they were unable to see any suspects or vehicles that may have been involved in the incident.

Willis was reportedly shot once and attempted to drive away when the vehicle was riddled with several more bullets. Willis was struck again and lost control of his vehicle. He crashed into a house in the 500 block of Avenue G.

The resident of the house called police and Willis was taken by private vehicle to Greenwood Leflore Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 2:38 a.m. Hospital officials said Willis died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Green was shot in the lower left leg and sustained slight injuries when the vehicle hit the house.

Rhodes and Ollie also sustained cuts and lacerations from shattering glass due to the accident.

Authorities believe the shooting may have been gang related and the incident remains under investigation.

More arrests are pending.
