Snapshots of bluesman Robert Johnson lead to family tug-of-war headed to Mississippi Supreme Court

JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — Only two photographs of bluesman Robert Johnson — said to have sold his soul to the devil for his guitar talent — are known to exist.

One, known as the “studio portrait,” was made for Johnson by Hooks Brothers Studios in Memphis, Tenn. The other, referred to as “the dime store portrait” or “the photo booth self-portrait,” was taken by Johnson himself.

NEW YORK (AP) — As bells tolled solemnly, Americans marked the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on Wednesday with the reading of the names, moments of silence and serene music that have become tradition.

At a morning ceremony on the 2-year-old memorial plaza at the site of the World Trade Center, relatives recited the names of the nearly 3,000 people who died when hijacked jets crashed into the twin towers and the Pentagon and near Shanksville, Pa. New Orleans-bound Amtrak train collides with 18-wheeler in Holmes County

TCHULA, Mississippi -(AP) — Officials are investigating an accident Tuesday involving Amtrak’s City of New Orleans train and an 18-wheeler in Mississippi.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said the train was headed to New Orleans with 152 passengers and 11 crew members when the accident occurred in Holmes County about 9:30 a.m.

Magliari said there were no reports of serious injuries, but a passenger and crew member were taken to local hospitals… […]

Report: NSA can access most smartphone data

BERLIN (AP) — The U.S. National Security Agency is able to crack protective measures on iPhones, BlackBerry and Android devices, giving it access to users’ data on all major smartphones, according to a report Sunday in German news weekly Der Spiegel.

The magazine cited internal documents from the NSA and its British counterpart GCHQ in which the agencies describe setting up dedicated teams for each type of phone as part of their effort to gather intelligence on potential threats such as terrorists.
