Felon charged with teen’s murder

VICKSBURG – A man on parole for assaulting a police officer four years ago has been returned to MDOC custody for the alleged murder of a 16-year old boy. Deaunte Earl Lewis, 23, of Vicksburg, waived his right to a preliminary hearing in court after police said he allegedly stabbed Terry Robinson to death after an altercation on New Year‘s Eve.

Vicksburg Police Chief Walter Armstrong said the incident between Lewis and Robinson began as an argument at the home of Lewis’ girlfriend, at the Waltersville Estates apartment complex on Kings Street, on Dec. 31, 2009. Authorities said Robinson, who lived in the same complex with his mother and sister, then left the residence through a back door, and Lewis reportedly exited through the front door where “the fight continued outside.”

“The murder actually occurred outside of the apartment,” Chief Armstrong said. “And we can’t release any more details because it’s evidential information in our case. But [as a result of the altercation] the young man was stabbed more than once with a sharp object.”

The Vicksburg Post reported that after he was stabbed, Robinson climbed into a nearby car, where his mother found him unresponsive. Chief Armstrong said Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene, and the weapon used in his murder has not been recovered.

Lewis was apprehended a short time later in the vicinity of the assault and charged with Robinson’s murder.

In 2007, Lewis was convicted of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, as well as grand larceny auto. He was sentenced to five years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, and was released in 2009 on the earned release program. MDOC officials said up until his recent arrest, Lewis “had been complying with the requirements of ERS supervision.”

Lewis is being held without bond at a Warren County jail.

Funeral services for Robinson, a freshman at Warren Central High School, were Saturday, Jan. 9, at Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church, where he also served as an usher.

The case remains under investigation.
