Victim is missing logger
Nearly two weeks after authorities found a body floating in the Mississippi River, officials have positively identified the victim. The man was identified as missing logger David A. Lawson of Roe, Arkansas. Lawson was reported missing in November 2010 and his body was found on April 4.
Warren County authorities said Lawson disappeared from a river logging operation near Clarksdale nearly six months ago and his boat was found on the river west of the Coahoma-Boliver County line. Lawson’s pick up truck was found at the boat landing in Coahoma County. His body was spotted by a towboat operator about four miles north of the river’s bridge near Vicksburg.
Dental records were used to identify Lawson.
JPD to sponsor domestic violence seminar
The Jackson Police Department’s Quality of Life Unit will be sponsoring another “House of Worship Crime Prevention Seminar.” The seminar, entitled “Domestic Violence in the House of Worship,” is open to all clergy.
Officer Colendula Green said the seminar will be held on April 27 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Jackson Police Training Academy located at 3000 St. Charles Street.
Man caught selling alcohol to minors in “bar”
Captain Davy Davis of the Pascagoula Police Department said a 57-year old man was arrested for allegedly selling alcohol to minors out of his home. Rodney Bruce Harper, of the 3300 block of Ingalls Avenue, was charged with 11 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of giving/providing alcohol to minors after police said they received several anonymous tips.
Police arrived at Harper’s residence about 1 p.m., on April 20 and found about 20 juveniles ranging in age from 15 to 18 in a separate building outside Harper’s property. Officers said the building had been converted into a bar complete with an entertainment system, pool table and bar.
The teens were released into the custody of their parents and Harper was taken into custody and held on a $5,000 bond which he later posted and was released.
Man fails to register as sex offender
A man convicted of two counts of sexual battery in 2004 has been arrested for non-compliant sex offender. The Jackson County Sheriffs Department arrested Jason Bruce Bradley, 31, after it was discovered he had been living in the 1900 block of Arizona Street in Pascagoula for more than 30 days.
Bradley’s last known address as a registered sex offender was in the 800 block of Kell Avenue.
Authorities said the Mississippi State Statue 45-33-29 (6) requires that a sex offender report any changes of address within 10 days prior to moving.
Bradley is currently being held in the Jackson County Adult Detention facility pending an initial appearance.
Woman disappears going to get prescription
Authorities in Prentiss County said a woman who went to get a prescription filled has not been seen or heard from since. Forty-five year old Tammy McVey Wright went missing on March 25 after police said she visited a friend in the hospital and then headed for the pharmacy.
Wright, described as being about five feet five inches tall and weighing about 175 to 190 pounds, was driving a 2005 silver Pontiac Bonneville with the license plate PWK 170.
