Fugitive gets probation in court

WINONA – A man who police said shot into his girlfriend’s house, bit her son, and then alluded police for almost two years was given three years probation in circuit court.

Donald Chambers, of Winona appeared in Montgomery County Circuit Court, after being charged with malicious mischief for shooting into the Duck Hill residence of his girlfriend in March 2008. 

Judge Joseph Loper sentenced Chambers to five years in jail with five years suspended and five years supervised probation.

Chambers was arrested in September 2009 after an off-duty policeman spotted him in a Grenada County convenience store. Chambers was apprehended without incident and transported to the Carroll-Montgomery Regional Correctional Facility in Vaiden.

According to Deputy Joel Hill of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, in March 2008, Chambers and his girlfriend had an altercation that escalated when Chambers left and returned with a gun. Hill said Chambers then shot through the front door and forced his way into the apartment. Hill said when Chambers physically assaulted the woman, her two teenage sons intervened.

“During the fight, Chambers bit a part of one of the boy’s cheek off,“ Hill said.

Hill was initially charged with burglary of a dwelling, shooting into an occupied dwelling and aggravated assault.

According to Montgomery County court records, Chambers had several felony charges prior to the three felony warrants that were issued after the March incident.

Also sentenced in Montgomery County Circuit Court were:

James Eskridge, who was charged with felony DUI and felony possession of a firearm. On the firearm charge he was sentenced to 10 years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC). Upon completion of three years, he is to be on post release supervision for seven years. On the felony DUI charge, he was sentenced to three years with MDOC to run concurrent with the firearm charge. He was also fined $2,000.

Jahan Tammage Bostic was charged with failure to register as a sex offender. He was sentenced to three years with MDOC. Upon completion of six months, he is to be on post release supervision for two years and six months.

Kendrick Demming was charged with felony aggravated assault. He was sentenced to 15 years with 12 years suspended for five years. Upon his release he will serve five years supervised probation.

Eloise Johnson was charged with shoplifting. She plead guilty and was sentenced to two years with MDOC for two years with two years supervised probation.

LaMarcus Corell Jackson was charged with felony DUI. He was sentenced to five years with MDOC with four years suspended with one year to serve. He was also fined $2,000.

Brandon Crawford was charged with possession of stolen property. He was sentenced to 10 years with eight suspended for five years with two years to serve. Upon his release he is to be placed on supervised probation for five years. He was also fined $1,000.

Clark Waddell was charged with motor vehicle theft as a second or subsequent offender. He was sentenced to 15 years with MDOC with four to serve. Upon his release he is to be placed on supervised probation for 11 years. He was also fined $1,000 in court costs.

Tiffany King was charged with seven counts of felony false pretense/bad check. She plead guilty and was sentenced to three years with MDOC on Count I with three years suspended and supervised probation for three years. She also has to pay $1,000 in court costs and $1,870.34 restitution to SuperValu in Winona. On Count II, she was sentenced to two years suspended for two years. On Count III, she was sentenced to three years with three years suspended with three years supervised probation. Counts III through Counts VII are to run concurrently.
