Man shot and killed in barbershop

Suspect still at large

CLARKSDALE – Police said an ongoing feud may have led to a shooting at a local barbershop last week that left one man dead. Captain Robbie Linley of the Clarksdale Police Department said Derrick Ross, 32, was shot and killed on Feb. 25 at Tony’s Barbershop allegedly by 20-year old LaTravion Perryman.

Linley said Perryman fled the scene after the shooting and he remains at large.

Linley said the incident began about 10:35 p.m. when Ross reportedly argued with another man in the barbershop.

“Ross was in an altercation with a relative of Perrymans, a physical altercation,” Linley said. “They were fighting inside the barbershop when we believe Perryman got up and shot Ross one time in the face.”

Clarksdale police were called to the scene and Ross was transported to Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Linley said the weapon used in the murder has not been recovered and the search for Perryman and the investigation continues.

Linley said both Ross and Perryman both have prior misdemeanor charges in Clarksdale but no felonies.

An autopsy on Ross is pending.
