Proctor & Gamble recalls Pringles chips

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Procter & Gamble is voluntarily recalling two flavors of its Pringles chips because they may be tainted with Salmonella.

The Cincinnati-based company is offering replacement coupons or refunds for the Cheeseburger and “Taco Night” versions of the chips in super snack canisters.

Only products with the following “best by” dates and UPC Codes are being recalled: Cheeseburger Pringles – UPC Code 37000 26936 and Best Buy dates 2/2011 and 4/2011 and Taco Night Pringles – UPC Code 37000 26773 and Best Buy dates 3/2011, 4/2011 and 5/2011.

The “best by” date for each product can be found on the bottom of the can.

No other Pringles varieties or flavors are affected by the recall.

The company has had no reports of illness.

P&G is the latest company to voluntarily recall products with flavor-enhancing hydrolyzed vegetable protein made by Las Vegas-based Basic Food Flavors.

Salmonella bacteria can cause serious infections in young children and others with weakened immune systems. Federal authorities say Salmonella was found on Basic Food’s processing equipment.
