Woman stabs boyfriend in domestic dispute

CLARKSDALE – A Clarksdale woman is behind bars for allegedly stabbing her live-in boyfriend to death. Elaine Grantham, 55, was arrested last Thursday after authorities said she and 49-year old Roy Cooper argued, and she allegedly killed him in a domestic dispute.

Captain Robbie Linley, of the Clarksdale Police Department, said around 2:39 a.m., Feb. 4, authorities answered a “disturbance call” at the couple’s residence on Prince Street. Linley said a neighbor heard the altercation and went from door to door looking to use a telephone.

Linley said when police arrived at the residence, they found Cooper inside, unresponsive. Grantham was also in the home.

“He was unconscious,” Linley said. “And they found out later after the paramedics arrived that he had been stabbed.”

Cooper had been stabbed once in the upper back and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Linley also said several instruments that could have been used in the assault were taken to the crime lab to determine which one was the murder weapon.

Linley would not release specific details about the case, pending an upcoming trial, but he did say that Grantham and Cooper “have a history” with the police department.

Grantham was arrested without incident and taken to Coahoma County jail. Her bond was set at $50,000.

Grantham waived her preliminary hearing and her case was bound over to the Coahoma County Grand Jury. Her bond was later reduced to $25,000.
