Graffiti on I-55 signs will cost state $9k

The Associated Press is reporting that graffiti messages on three Interstate 55 signs in the Jackson area will cost Mississippi $9,000 to replace. Vandals sprawled the phrase “Live in this moment,” on an exit sign, and “This is the path we take,” farther north on two more signs.

Officials at MDOT believe the vandalism occurred overnight because traffic cameras failed to capture the culprit. They further believe the suspect climbed the signs’ poles, across their metal catwalks and over oncoming traffic.

The signs are due to be replaced by the spring of 2011.
