Policeman charged with sexual battery appears in court

GRENADA – A Grenada Police Officer who was arrested while on duty and charged with two counts of sexual battery, appeared in court last week, and his bond was set at $20,000. Donnie Tenner, of Charleston, was taken into custody after a thorough investigation by the Public Integrity Division of the Attorney General’s Office.

Tenner was charged with the sexual battery of a child stemming from two incidents occurring in Charleston in 1998 and 2005. At the time, Tenner was employed as a teacher, an assistant coach and a police officer, all positions of trust or authority over the child.

Tenner has been placed on suspension by the Grenada Police Department pending the outcome of the investigation.

Domestic argument leads to deadly stabbing

CLEVELAND – According to WABG News, an argument between a couple living in the Sunset Village Apartment complex escalated last Tuesday when the man and the woman involved both stabbed each other with a knife. The man was stabbed in the face and later died from his injuries. The woman was treated for her injuries and taken into custody by the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department. As of Tuesday, the woman had not been charged with a crime, and the incident remains under investigation.

Laurel man arrested for possession of child pornography

JACKSON – A Laurel resident was arrested last Wednesday and charged with possession of child pornography the attorney general’s office has confirmed. Wayne McClain, 51, was arrested at his home and charged with three counts of possession of child pornography. He was transported to the Jones County jail. Not court date has been set.

If convicted, McClain faces up to 120 years behind bars with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Attorney General Jim Hood said that the state of Mississippi and local authorities are unified in “catching all those who are downloading child porn.”

Nightclub shooting leaves one dead

BELZONI – Police said that gunfire erupted last Saturday night at the Blue Room Café on George Lee Street around 9:30 p.m., that left one man dead. Authorities said 34-year old Belzoni resident, Ray Chapman, died from gunshot wounds to the chest and arm, stemming from an argument at the club’s pool table. Two other shooting victims were transported to UMC in Jackson with serious injuries. The incident remains under investigation.

Woman indicted for false pretense

JACKSON – A Marshall County woman has been indicted by a DeSoto County Grand Jury for false pretense, Attorney General Jim Hood announced last Wednesday.

Sweetie B. Wooten, 38, of Holly Springs, was indicted on Nov. 19, and is accused of intending to cheat or defraud the victim by telling him that she could get him out of a criminal charge if he paid her $10,000.

Wooten was arrested in August by investigators with the Public Integrity Division of the Attorney General’s Office. She was taken to the DeSoto County jail and released on a $5,000 bond. She remains free on that bond until her court date, which has not yet been set.

Wooten faces up to 10 years in jail, if convicted.
