Highway patrol have not determined cause
Authorities are still working to determine the cause of an accident that claimed the life of the 20-year old daughter of the Monroe County Coroner over the holiday weekend. Jessica Gurley, daughter of Alan Gurley, died at Baptist Memorial Hospital on Sept. 4 after authorities said she and another car collided on U.S. Highway 45 north.
Gurley, who lived in Hamilton and worked at the local Dollar General Store, was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion, and traveling westbound through the intersection of Hamilton Road and Highway 45 when she collided with Kelly Hollowell, 36, of Steens. Hollowell was driving a 2001 Chevy Tahoe and she was traveling southbound on Highway 45.
A Mississippi Highway Patrol Spokesman, Brian Mobley, said the accident is still under investigation and no further details about the accident are being released.
Hollowell and her two passengers were also transported to Baptist hospital. Hollowell was treated and released, but the condition of her passengers is unknown.
WCBI reported that Gurley had been to see her dad and was on her way back to work at the time of the collision. Gurley is survived by her father, her sister Catlin and her brother, Christopher, currently stationed with the United States Navy in Norfolk, Va. Jessica was preceded in death by her mother.
Moss Point man arrested for pawning stolen X-Box and Wii systems
A Moss Point man is being held on a $2,500 bond after he allegedly pawned an X-Box game and a Wii game console stolen from a St. Martin residence. Mikos Chavez Rush was arrested on Aug. 31 after he allegedly pawned those items at a Moss Point pawn shop.
Investigators said when they questioned Rush as to how he obtained the items, he allegedly said he bought them from an unknown subject at a local gas station for $80. Authorities said the X-Box was worth $500 and the Wii was worth $300, and that both items had been reported stolen earlier in the day.
Both items have since been returned to the owner.
Armed robbers escape after struggle with homeowner
Gulfport police are looking for a 2003 white Lincoln Town Car that was stolen from a homeowner during a failed robbery attempt. Authorities said on Aug. 30, two armed men entered a residence in the 13000 block of Trailwood Drive. After the homeowner briefly struggled with the two armed assailants, the suspects fled the scene in the homeowner’s vehicle.
Police said the car is still missing and the license plate number is HFE 815.

Man bound over for robbing store and cutting clerk
WCBI reported that a Crimestoppers tip led to the arrest of a West Point man, charged in connection with an armed robbery in July. Investigators said 44-year old Frederick Gandy, 44, was arrested after his picture aired on WCBI. Gandy has been charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault.
On July 9, about 5:30 a.m., Gandy walked into the B-Quick on the corner Main and Eshman, and purchased some chips and left the store. Gandy returned allegedly armed with a knife and demanded money.
Gandy and the clerk reportedly struggled and the clerk was cut with the knife. Gandy fled the store wearing a blue baseball hat, blue jeans, and a white shirt, but not before he was captured on surveillance video.
Gandy fled the scene on a bicycle.
Gandy is being held on a $150,000 bond and he has been bound over to the Clay County Grand Jury which meets again in October.
