Cause of blaze under investigation
Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus says a 30-year-old Pascagoula woman died Friday night in a fire in her apartment.
Broadus said the woman died of smoke inhalation. Her name has not been released.
Fire Department Capt. Donnie Carlson says the woman’s body was found Friday night in the downstairs apartment after firefighters put out the blaze. He says the fire destroyed the woman’s apartment, but because of the cinder block construction, spared the three surrounding apartments in the two-story building.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Charge against Jackson businessman dismissed
Madison County’s prosecutor has decided to dismiss a cyberstalking charge against Jackson businessman Stuart M. Irby Sr., but not because he thought the case was weak.
Michael Guest, district attorney for Madison and Rankin counties, said the charges were dismissed based upon the findings of the psychiatrist.
Thomas Mayfield, Irby’s attorney in the criminal case, said he couldn’t comment about the indictment being dismissed.
A board certified psychiatrist’s report dated Oct. 28 said Irby suffers from severe, permanent brain injury as a result of trauma.
Irby was indicted this summer on the cyberstalking charge and could have served up to five years in prison if convicted. He was freed on a $50,000 bond.
