JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — The Mississippi Supreme Court has upheld the life sentence with parole given a Madison County woman convicted of capital murder in the death her baby.

Prosecutors say Shelia Ealey of Flora shut her newborn son inside a suitcase while he was still alive and left it near a Flora church in July of 2010.

The infant was found by a church member clearing weeds around the property. Authorities say the boy was wrapped in a garbage bag and blanket inside the suitcase.

Ealey was convicted in Madison County in 2013.

The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected Ealey’s argument that prosecutors didn’t prove her guilt. The court said the sufficient evidence to support the jury’s verdict.
