Social worker notified police

A Greenville man is behind bars after authorities said he abused his 2-month old son putting the infant in the hospital. Corey Williams, 19, was arrested and charged with one count of child abuse after a social worker at the Blair E. Batson Hospital, in Jackson, contacted police.

The infant was reportedly brought in on Nov. 19, with extensive injuries, and as required by law, the authorities were contacted. The infant was placed on life support.

An investigation began and Williams was later. His bond was set at $150,000.

Former mayoral candidate arrested during board meeting

A longtime opponent of West Point’s mayor, Scott Ross, was arrested during a board meeting earlier this month after scuffling with police officers. Harold Lathon was tackled to the floor during the November board meeting after the board refused to let him speak during the meeting. 

Lathon, who twice ran for mayor against Ross, had reportedly signed up to speak at the meeting, but was rejected because he failed to provide enough details about his topic. When Lathon, who had been disruptive during the entire meeting objected, the situation escalated and the scuffle between Lathon, West Point Police Chief Bobby Lane and another officer ensued.

Lathon was escorted from the meeting in handcuffs and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

4 indicted on false Hurricane Katrina claims

Four people in Gulfport have been indicted on charges of filing false claims to collect damages for homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The Associated Press is reporting that the four individuals were not actually living where they said they were when Katrina struck in August 2005.

Grenada company adds new jobs

Officials at Advanced Distributor Products, in Grenada, have said they will expand their evaporator coil factory to accommodate a new fabrication process, and this will create 26 new jobs.

Advanced Distributor, which designs, produces and sells high-efficiency air handlers, coils and unity heaters, said a 26,000 square-foot building is going up next to their existing site in Grenada’s Air Industrial Park.

ADP worked with the Mississippi Development Authority and Grenada County to obtain the funding needed for the project.
