Known for his electrifying performances

A local blues musician was recently honored when his likeness was carved in stone. Mississippi Slim, who died in April 2010 at the age of 66, was immortalized when artist Alan Orlicek unveiled a carved stone in the late musician’s honor.

Prior to the unveiling, a Greenville Blues Walk dedication was held and Orlicek unveiled the stone in front of the Walnut Street Blues Bar. That event kicked off a weekend of blues activities that included a party outside on Walnut Street.

The stone will be placed be placed on the sidewalk at a later date.

Mississippi Slim died on April 14 at the Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, reportedly of natural causes.

Hit and run under investigation

Greenville Police Captain Andrew Kaho said a man passed out behind the wheel, crashed into two parked vehicles and then fled the scene. Theodore Brown was cited at his home, on June 23, after he went there after the accident.

Reportedly, around 9 a.m., Wednesday morning, Brown was driving his F-150 pick up truck on Harvey Street, in Greenville. Brown reportedly passed out and ran into two cars. Authorities said when he came to, instead of waiting for police to arrive, Brown went home.

Brown was issued a citation for leaving the scene of an accident.

Reportedly, there were no injuries in the accident, but Brown did seek medical treatment for himself.

The accident remains under investigation.

Brothel operator indicted

A man charged with operating a brothel in Terry has been indicted by a grand jury. James Little was arrested by the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department for allegedly violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act.

In 2008 and 2009, investigators raided a home on I-55 South and Frontage Road that was set up to look like a massage parlor. Authorities said Little was using the home for alleged prostitution.

Little is being held at the Hinds County Detention Center and his bond has not been set.
