BAY ST LOUIS, Mississippi (AP) — The Mississippi Highway Patrol says four people were killed and four others injured when a tractor-trailer plowed into traffic stopped on Interstate 10 near Bay St. Louis.
Lt. Johnny Poulos says eastbound traffic had stopped after a pickup truck and trailer overturned, spilling used computer equipment across the highway.
He says no charges have yet been made in the 11-vehicle wreck, and the dead won’t be identified until families are notified.
Poulos says four people were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
He says traffic tie-ups extended into Louisiana while traffic was being detoured to an exit two miles east of the state line.
Poulos says the wreck occurred about 12:11 a.m., about 10 miles east of the state line and two miles east of Bay St. Louis.
