At the regular meeting of Hinds County Board of Supervisors, Monday, Jan. 7, all cameras were focused on Supervisor Doug Anderson. He rescinded his planned retirement on Dec. 31, 2012, one day before it was to take effect.

With only one day left before Supervisor Doug Anderson’s resignation/retirement was scheduled to take effect, he pulled the plug on it.
After 19 years in the county post, and more than 36 years in public office, Anderson had said through his daughter, Jackie Anderson Woods, that he was giving up the post due to health concerns. RALEIGH, N.C. – In what civil rights leaders across the nation are calling a significant moment in the civil rights movement, North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue has granted individual pardons of actual innocence to all members of the Wilmington Ten.

Near top of the year, pulling at the heart strings of most Americans was news of the sudden death of pop icon Whitney Houston Feb. 11. She left behind daughter Bobbi Kristina. The star was found face down in a water-filled bathtub with drug paraphernalia nearby. The coroner’s initial report stated that she died of accidental drowning.
Forensic toxicologist Bruce Goldberger said the details about her blood from the toxicology report indicated she was “acutely intoxicated from cocaine” at the time of her death and was a “repeated cocaine user.” Traces of prescription medications were in her system, and blood tests indicated that she smoked marijuana within two weeks before her death….
