Woman shot dead in home; autopsy results pending

SALTILLO – Authorities are awaiting full autopsy results on a 20-year old woman found shot to death in her boyfriend’s home last month. Investigators said Anna Catherine McCoy was pronounced dead on April 15 after sustaining a gunshot wound to the mouth.

Saltillo Police Chief Steve Brooks said they’re treating the death as a homicide.

“We’re not saying it’s a homicide, but we’re treating it like one,” Brooks said. “We’re waiting on the autopsy to come back from the crime lab…and that will tell us more about what’s going on.”

WTVA reported that details about the case are sketchy, but investigators learned that a 23-year old man, described at McCoy’s ex-boyfriend, was in the room when McCoy was killed. Officials said McCoy was sitting on the bed at 134 Willoughby Oaks Drive, when she was shot in the right side of the mouth.

Police said the weapon used in the death was a .40 caliber handgun.

Chief Brooks said both McCoy and the unnamed ex-boyfriend were tested for gunpowder residue. Results from that test are also pending.

Investigators said the ex-boyfriend and his father were at the residence when McCoy was shot and both were questioned by authorities.

Neither man has been arrested or charged.
