HATTIESBURG, Mississippi (AP) — Authorities say the man who shot himself when pulled over for a traffic stop in Hattiesburg early Wednesday morning has died.
Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict told The Hattiesburg American 22-year-old Jevon Tyrone Perry, of New Orleans, died Saturday at Forrest General.
Benedict says Perry died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Because the death was from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Benedict says Perry’s body will not be sent to the state crime lab for autopsy.
Police says the incident occurred just after 2 a.m. Wednesday on the Hardy Street off-ramp for Interstate 59.
Police spokesman Lt. Jon Traxler during the traffic stop, the driver suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
