Gulfport man killed after colliding car into tree

A 67-year-old Gulfport man is dead after officials said he collided with a tree on Highway 90 late Saturday night. Jimmie Jamison was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital after being transported from the scene, Gulfport police said.

Nurse arrested for taking drugs from patient for himself

A Scott County nurse has been arrested and charged with taking drugs from a patient for his own purposes, Attorney General Jim Hood said.
 
Jacob  David Lee, 27, formerly a registered nurse (RN) at S. E. Lackey Critical Access Hospital in Forest, turned himself in to investigators with the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit on Wednesday, Nov. 28, following indictment by the Scott County Grand Jury on one count of  “obtaining a controlled substance by means of fraud…”

Doctor sentenced to 13 months in drug case

A Columbus doctor has been sentenced to 13 months in federal prison on three counts of distributing narcotics.

Dr. Mark Burtman was sentenced in federal court in Oxford.

Burtman was charged with illegally distributing prescription painkillers. He pleaded guilty to the three counts on June 28.

Miss. inmate challenges death sentence

Mississippi death row inmate Ricky Chase continues to argue he is mentally incapacitated and shouldn’t be put to death for a 1990 killing.

A Copiah County judge ruled against him in 2010, but the case is headed back to the state Supreme Court.

Trial date set in Greenwood murder-for-hire case

A Greenwood doctor and one other man are set to stand trial April 22 in a murder-for-hire plot that prosecutors say unsuccessfully targeted a local attorney.

The Greenwood Commonwealth reports that the trial date was set this month in Leflore County during a preliminary hearing for Dr. Arnold Smith and Cordarious Robinson.
