Woman was swimming with her son

Authorities said the body of a 39-year old Forest woman has been recovered after rescue teams dragged the Pearl River. Witnesses said Angela Jenkins was swimming with her son Thursday, June 3, when her son began screaming and bobbing in the water saying he could not find his mother.

Jenkins’ husband, Donald, and another person dove in the water to find Angela but they were unsuccessful.

Leake County authorities dragged the river until about 6 p.m. that evening until they finally recovered the body.

An autopsy has been scheduled.

Bond set for separate robbery suspects

Bonds have been set for two suspects charged in two separate robberies that occurred over the Memorial Day weekend in Greenville. Derrick Lee Barnes was arrested on Sunday May 30 after he allegedly robbed a man outside a downtown hotel.

Barnes’ bond was set at $250,000.

Willie Britt was also arrested on Sunday, after he alleged robbed someone in the parking lot of Wal-Mart. Witnesses saw the robbery taking place and detained Britt until the authorities arrived.

His bond was set at $5,000.

Gang member captured in Illinois

A wanted suspect from Drew was captured in Peoria, Illinois after police said he was involved in the gang-related beating of a man with a golf club. Demetrius Webb, 24, an alleged member of the Vice Lords, was found hiding at a friend’s house in Peoria last week.

Once he is extradited back to Mississippi, he will face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
