Woman stabs two sisters during argument

GREENWOOD – Police said a Greenwood woman has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault after she allegedly stabbed two other women during an argument. Andrea Marie Smith was arrested for stabbing Lynda Hooper and her sister, Lakisha, during an altercation late last month. Authorities said Lynda was stabbed in the stomach and Lakisha was stabbed in the throat.

Assistant Chief Huntley Nevels, of the Greenwood Police Department, said the incident occurred on Feb. 22, in a business district on Tallahatchie Street, and that several other women were also involved.

“The females were in about three other vehicles,” Nevels said. “And from what we understand they all met up there with weapons, a baseball bat, tire irons, a knife and somebody had Mace.”

Nevels said witnesses told police that Smith had been stalking one of the victims.

“Lynda was dating Andrea’s baby’s daddy,” he said. “And when they met up there started fighting and Andrea stabbed the sisters.”

Nevels said Lynda and Lakisha were transported to Greenwood Leflore Hospital by private vehicle, and Smith was apprehended a short time later.

Smith, who has several priors, was charged and her bond was set at $50,000. She has since bonded out.

Greenwood Police Chief Henry Purnell said once Lynda left the hospital, she was also charged with aggravated assault for hitting Smith with a baseball bat.

Lakisha, who Purnell said sustained serious injuries, was also released from the hospital and no charges were brought against her.

Greenwood officials said neither Lynda or Lakisha have a prior criminal record.

The incident remains under investigation.
