Bond set at $30,000

Ocean Springs Police have an 18-year old boy in custody after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 19-year old female. Zachary Thomas, of the 3200 block of Joy Lane, in Ocean Springs, is being held on a $30,000 bond after authorities said he reportedly assaulted the victim on Oct. 28.

Officials did not name the female but said Thomas was named during the course of the investigation. Thomas was charged with one count of sexual battery and he was transported to the Ocean Springs Municipal Jail.

Car crashes into McDonald’s

Three people were injured Saturday after two cars collided at a Pascagoula McDonald’s sending one vehicle crashing through the dining room window. Authorities said no one inside the restaurant was injured, but three people inside the two cars were taken to Singing River Hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred at the McDonald’s on U.S. Highway 90, and it remains under investigation.

Body of missing Mississippi boater found

Authorities in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana believe they have recovered the body of a missing Mississippi boater. Officials with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries discovered the partially submerged body of a man in his 60s, on Nov. 13, near a 19-foot boat floating near an oil rig.

A Mississippi man fitting that description was reported missing on Friday, Nov. 12. The body was sent to the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office for an autopsy. Those results are pending.

Officials said there were no signs of foul play aboard the boat, where a wallet was also recovered. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending the investigation and notification of the family.

Fire at Tunica casino forces evacuations

Firefighters responded to Fitzgerald’s Casino and Hotel in Tunica County early Sunday morning after officials said a refrigerator overheated in a hotel room. The fire reportedly started in a room on the seventh floor and hotel guests were evacuated while firefighters contained the blaze.

Hotel management said all smoke alarms were working as was the sprinkler system, even though some guests said they didn’t hear the smoke alarms.

WREG reported that the casino operations were not affected by the smoke or fire and remained opened to the public. Only the hotel rooms affected by the smoke and water damage were off limits while the rest of the hotel remained open.
