Parent-child summit set for Saturday

Special to The Mississippi Link

Program will focus on benefits available to the community

GREENVILLE – The Delta Consortium for Positive Change (DCPC) is a Mississippi Delta based organization whose mission is to ensure that every child and parent has equal access to community resources that are available to help them become productive citizens. The DCPC is planning their 2nd annual summit entitled, “Giving Youth A Voice: A Delta Summit” to be held at Mississippi Valley State University, on Saturday, July 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This year’s program will focus on several topics including: dropout prevention, parental engagement, policies and legislation, school accountability, drug awareness, and decreasing sexually transmitted diseases.

Organizers said the summit will allow delta residents of all ages to ask questions and share ideas as to how to improve the quality of life for the youth and the community. They also promote the idea that everyone is an important member of the Delta and can individually, directly and positively impact the lives of others.

The DCPC summit will feature leaders in education, public service, local-state-federal government, religion, and the community to be a part of creating a positive mindset within the Delta’s communities.

The summit will also include adult workshops, panel discussions and organization booths with representatives who will share information about the services offered to residents in the community.

To set up a booth or to attend the summit, please contact the Delta Foundation at 662-335-5291, Tim Holbrook at 662-719-5166 or Mashondia Redmond at 662-820-5885.
