Morgan Freeman Raising Cash For Friend’s Race For Gov.

JACKSON, Miss. – Actor Morgan Freeman will be on the campaign trail in Mississippi as he helps his longtime business partner, Bill Luckett, raise money to run for governor in 2011 as a Democrat.

Luckett’s campaign on Friday announced a series of fundraisers Oct. 15-19 in Hattiesburg, Biloxi, Madison, Ridgeland and Jackson. The suggested contribution ranges from $250 to $1,000.

Freeman said in the release that Luckett can get things done. Luckett, of Clarksdale, said he’s spending the next several months listening to residents’ concerns.

Term limits prevent Republican Gov. Haley Barbour from running a third time, so the field is wide open. Others gearing up to run are Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant and Gulf Coast businessman Dave Dennis, who are Republicans, and Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree, a Democrat.
