Montgomery County businessman found murdered

DUCK HILL – Montgomery County Sheriff Jerry ‘Bubba’ Nix confirmed that a local businessman was found murdered in his home late Tuesday night. Nix said that William McCuiston, owner of the Spring Hill Tree Service, was found shot to death about 9:51 p.m., by his wife and teenage daughter.

Nix said the wife came home, after visiting another daughter in the area, and found McCuiston lying on the floor at the front door.

“He had been shot in the back five times,” Nix said. “And we interviewed people all morning and we had the MBI and the crime lab out of Batesville to come down.”

Nix, who is being assisted by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, said the victim’s home, located on Minerva and Lodi Roads in the county, showed no signs of forced entry and nothing was reported missing by McCuiston’s wife.

“There was a sliding back door that was unlocked, but that was it,” Nix said. “There were a few drawers that were open, but nothing was torn up or anything.”

Nix said his department is searching for a motive in the killing of man “that every body liked.”

“What we’re looking at is he went in the house, and whoever was already inside, shot him multiple times,” Nix said. “But we’re not sure of why because he has a business right here in Winona and he was a nice guy. Everybody liked him. Everybody.”

Anyone with information relating to this crime is asked to call the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department at 662.283.3343.
