The Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES) held a press conference to alert the public about a new great partnership.

“Today we are pleased to announce the offering of vouchers for E-Learning courses at no cost to the public through the WIN Job centers in Mississippi,” said Les Range, executive director of MDES. “These vouchers will be especially helpful to those individuals looking to enhance their computer literacy skills.”
The partnership titled “Microsoft Elevate America” In a day and time where basic computer skills are essential to the progression of any profession, the skills learned after successfully completing a course provided by vouchers will definitely make an impact in the lives of displaced or unemployed individuals.
“Technology has been, and will continue to be, a critical element of ensuring that MDES achieves our mission of ‘increasing employment in Mississippi,’” said Range.
On hand to introduce the vouchers and make the first presentation was Terrance Herron, director of Microsoft State Government Affairs for the Greater Southeast.
“At Microsoft we believe that technology can be an incredible mechanism to economic growth and individual opportunity,” said Herron. “However, technology needs to be apart of a broader approach. Including training and access that fits the local context and the on the ground reality in our communities.”
That reality being the fact that many people don’t have the basic skills needed to keep up with the growth of technology. For some, the first computer obstacles are the keyboard and the mouse. Luckily, the Microsoft vouchers will help those with minimal to no computer background.
“Here in Mississippi, the objective is to accelerate the workforce readiness of individuals through a selection of the most career relevant training and certification programs offered by Microsoft,” said Herron.
MDES and Microsoft have partnered up to distribute a total of 19,200 training vouchers during the next 30 days to individuals through job centers across the state. Courses are said to range from basic technology literacy to intermediate-level technology skills. A portion of the vouchers will be issued to Mississippi residents for Microsoft Certification Exams, all at no cost to the recipient.
