Two killed in Gulfport crash
Authorities in Gulfport are investigating a three-car accident that left two people dead. On Sept. 19, at 3:44 p.m., police responded to a call on Lorraine Road on the Wilkes Bridge, in reference to an accident. The investigation revealed that a 1991 Chevy S-10, driven by 25-year-old Genevieve Mayhew, was northbound on Lorraine Road, in the right lane, at the Wilkes Bridge.
While going northbound, the Mayhew attempted to change lanes. When she changed lanes, Mayhew struck the front end of a 2004 Toyota Tundra driven by Paul Williams of Gulfport.
Mayhew lost control of her vehicle and traveled northwest across the center concrete island toward the southbound lanes of Lorraine Road. She entered the path of a 2001 GMC Yukon XL driven by Manuel Santos of Gulfport. Santos hit Mayhew in the passenger side of her vehicle.
A 2006 Ford Fusion, driven by Amy Richey, then hit Santos in the GMC.
Neither Richey, Santos or Williams were injured in the crash, but Mayhew and her passenger, 21-year-old Jarred Lewis were both killed. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

1 sentenced in marijuana case
The last defendant has been sentenced in what prosecutors have described as a large marijuana distribution conspiracy that operated out of the central Mississippi city of Forest.
The Clarion-Ledger reports that 39-year-old Shannon Hall of Morton was sentenced Sept. 29 to 37 months by a federal judge in Jackson. Thirteen other defendants have been sentenced.
Prosecutors say Hall’s role in the drug conspiracy was to negotiate a price with one of the co-defendants.
Hall must report to prison on Nov. 14.
Hall and the others were indicted last year following a local, state and federal investigation accusing them of conspiring to distribute more than 1,000 kilograms, or more than 2,200 pounds, of marijuana in the Scott County area.
