Christmas parades kick off this week

CARROLLTON – The Christmas spirit is alive and well in Montgomery and Carroll Counties this week with the first parade in Carroll County taking place on Tuesday and three separate parades scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5.

The first parade scheduled for Carrollton and North Carrollton in Carroll County will have the theme, “Songs of Christmas.” The parade begins at 6 p.m., Dec. 1, with all floats, bands and marchers lining up at U.S. Highways 17 and 82. The parade will proceed down Carrollton Street and will feature the debut of the J.Z. George High School Marching Band.

On Saturday, Dec. 5, Vaiden will kick off their “Twelve Days of Christmas” Parade with early morning entertainment followed by the official parade at 11 a.m., with marchers, floats and high school marching bands proceeding down Mulberry Street.

There will also be a judging of the floats and awards will be given following the parade. And as in year’s past, several award-winning marching bands from across the state are slated to perform on Saturday. Participants for both parades will feature motorcycles, antique cars, horses and local politicians and businesses.

Winona in Montgomery County will begin their parade at 2 p.m., on Saturday, with the theme, “Christmas Around The World.”

Additional entertainment and activities are planned including a Breakfast with Santa, a barbecue cook-off and pie baking contest. Food vendors will also be on hand throughout the day for parade goers.

The town of Kilmichael will round out the day with their parade at 4 p.m. The parade line up will take place near Montgomery County Elementary School.

Organizers said this parade will also feature floats, bands, local clubs, civic groups and antique cars.

The traditional lighting of Santa’s Workshop at Kilmichael’s Town Square will take place after the parade and entertainment will be provided by Benny Rigby and His Majesty.
