Forged checks on victim’s account

A Louise woman has plead guilty to three counts of exploitation of a vulnerable adult. Attorney General Jim Hood said that Tami McDonald, 41, served as a caregiver for an elderly woman and during that time illegally wrote checks on the victim’s account.

Hood said McDonald also took cash out of the victim’s account.

“I know it is difficult for families faced with providing caregivers for their vulnerable loved ones,” said Attorney General Hood. “I just encourage them to stay focused on oversight of their loved ones affairs. Check on them regularly and regularly review their financial records to be sure no one is taking advantage of them. Any suspicions should be reported to local law enforcement or our office.”

McDonald was sentenced to 10 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections with nine years suspended and five years of supervised post release supervision for each count to run concurrently.

She was also ordered to pay $39,421.62 in restitution as well as $256.50 in court costs, $500 in attorney’s fees and $500 to the Victim’s Compensation Fund.

Woman runs over deputy’s foot with car

Authorities said a Greenwood woman ran over a deputy’s foot after being told to leave a local bar. Lateisha McGee was charged with aggravated assault after she allegedly ran over a Leflore County deputy’s foot with her car.

Printed reports said McGee and another woman were fighting at Scruples Sports Bar as it was closing. McGee became combative and refused to leave the premises. Deputies arrived and told McGee to leave when she reportedly jumped in her car and started the motor.

When told to put the car in park, McGee allegedly put it in drive and the back wheel ran over the deputy’s foot. McGee was arrested and the deputy was transported to Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

Reportedly, his foot was not broken, but slightly injured.
