2010 Delta State University Alumni Hall of Fame Inductees Recognized

The Delta Business Journal recently announced three inductees into the 2010 Delta State University Alumni Hall of Fame. The inductees, Major General Thomas Moore, Jr., of Scott, Dr. Wayne Blansett, of Cleveland, and Dr. Joe Whitehead, of Picayune, were recognized at the annual Delta State Alumni Service Awards Gala, held in October.

Major General Thomas Moore, Jr. obtained a B.A. degree from Delta State in 1982 under the Degree Completion Program. Moore retired as Acting Deputy Commander of the U.S. Central Command and currently serves as vice president of marketing, working unmanned aerial systems for Stark Aerospace in Columbus.

Moore was also recognized as Delta State University Alumnus of the Year.

Dr. Wayne Blansett received both a social science degree in 1973 and his doctoral degree in professional studies in 1988 from Delta State. In 1987 he was named associate dean of student affairs and was named vice president for student affairs in 1998. Dr. Blansett has served Delta State for 36 years.

Dr. Joe Whitehead earned his bachelors degree in physics from Delta State in 1983 and he earned a doctoral degree in physics from Kent State University in 1989.

Whitehead joined the University of Southern Mississippi as an assistant professor of physics and astronomy in 1990. Progressing through numerous departmental promotions, Whitehead now serves as the dean of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at USM.

Induction into the Delta State University Alumni Hall of Fame is the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the Delta State Alumni Association.

Established in 2007, the Alumni Hall of Fame is extended to alumni and friends who have achieved professional distinction and made significant community service contributions at the local, national and/or international level and who have thus brought honor and distinction to Delta State University.
