JACKSON – Police said a 27-year-old man is being held without bond after he allegedly sprayed a car with bullets killing a 2-year-old boy on the back seat, and more arrests may follow. Christopher Bradley has been charged with the Sept. 25 murder of Romerion Rhodes. Rhodes was in the car with his father, 24-year-old Robert Magee, when Bradley allegedly drove by and shot into the car.
Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green said around 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25, Magee pulled into the driveway of a home on Donaldson Drive near Grandview Circle. Magee and his son were sitting in his 1992 Toyota Camry when a blue 1995 Ford Taurus drove by and fired at least 11 bullets at the Camry.
Magee was shot in the top of the head and in the lower back, Green said, and Romerion was shot in the head.
Magee was transported to UMC in serious condition, while Romerion was pronounced dead 35 minutes later at Central Mississippi Medical Center, The Clarion Ledger reported.
Bradley, who has a lengthy criminal record, was arrested by U.S. Marshal’s about 9:15 a.m., the next day and he was charged with murder and aggravated assault.
The Clarion Ledger said another car is thought to be involved in the shooting and that Magee was the intended victim in the assault.
Police said the assailant in the shooting probably didn’t know the child was in the car.
