13- year old rapes stepsister; stabs parents

Psychological evaluation ordered by the court

GULFPORT – A court-ordered psychological evaluation has been scheduled for a 13-year old boy that allegedly raped his 7-year old stepsister and then stabbed his mother and stepfather. Noah Kaid Burge has been in the custody of the Harrison County jail since he was arrested for the brutal attacks on July 20.

Authorities said the chain of events unfolded on Monday, July 19 at the family’s residence on Banebury Cove in Gulfport.

“Noah’s parents divorced about two years ago, and the mother remarried,” said Albert Necaise, Noah’s attorney. “This was his step-daddy’s daughter by a previous marriage and she stayed at the house off and on because both parents had split custody.”

Necaise said he could not comment on the details of the sexual assault, but authorities did confirm Burge has been charged with the statutory rape of the 7-year old.

The next day, on July 20, around 10 p.m., Gulfport police were called to the home and found Burge’s parents suffering multiple stab wounds.

They identified Burge as their attacker.

“The mother had been stabbed once in the back of the neck,” Necaise said. “And the stepfather had several cuts where he was attempting to get the knife away from the young man.”

Burge’s mother and stepfather were transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Necaise said they have since been released and are recovering from their injuries.

Authorities said they would not release the motive in the attack, but said his parents had learned of Burge’s alleged rape of the young girl.

Sgt. Chris Ryle, an investigator with the Gulfport Police Department, said they began a search of the area for the teen after the assault, and he was found several hours later through a neighborhood tip.

“Some of his friends called to let us know where he was,” Ryle said. “And we found walking with some other friends on Mays Road and Easy Street.”

Ryle said Burge was cooperative with officers and he was transported to the Harrison County jail.

Burge was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and statutory rape. His bond was set at $300,000.

Burge appeared in court last week and Necaise said everyone agreed to a psychological evaluation of the teen which will be conducted on Tuesday, Aug. 10.

“I made the motion and everyone agreed,” Necaise said. “The state had no objection. In fact, they joined in the motion for the psychological exam.”

Gulfport police said they have not any problems with Burge prior to this incident.
