Controversy strikes a Southern community that splits it in two, in John Grisham’s gripping tale A Time to Kill. An idealistic, young, white lawyer takes the case of a black father, who took vengeance on the men who committed an atrocious crime against his daughter. Race, crime, family, and small town America are scrutinized in a trial that questions whether a person ever has the right to take justice into their own hands.
“During New Stage Theatre’s 50th Anniversary much of our season’s focus is on Mississippi and the state’s wealth of talented people, so it is a thrill to bring the regional premiere of John Grisham’s vivid cast of remarkable characters and his riveting American classic of race and justice to our stage,” said Director Francine Reynolds. “A Time to Kill, Grisham’s first novel, has enthralled readers for twenty five years and Rupert Holmes has written an adaptation that emulates the page turning thriller while asking the audience to consider the true meaning of justice.”
