Callaway H.S. baseball/softball diamond upgrades

Jackson Public Schools will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 14, for a baseball/softball diamond at Callaway High School.

Garrett Construction, owned by Jackson businessman Socrates Garrett, is sponsoring the upgrades to the baseball/softball diamond which include extending the diamond, cutting the diamond, preparing the field for sod installation, installing sod on the field, laying the base pads, and elevating the pitcher’s mound.

“The Callaway family and community are very excited about the work being done on the field. We are thankful to Garrett and Garrett Construction for sponsoring the project,” said Callaway Principal Clinton Johnson.

This partnership is an example of the kinds of collaboration that Superintendent Lonnie J. Edwards Sr. is advocating between Jackson Public Schools and the business community, especially in meeting the athletic needs of the district. “We can’t say thank you enough for the hard work and generosity of Socrates Garrett for donating the time and resources for this project. We look forward to other Jackson businesses getting involved in assisting us develop baseball fields throughout JPS,” Edwards said.
