Another doctor sought for mental evaluation of Mississippi doctor accused in murder-for-hire plot

GREENWOOD, Mississippi (AP) — Prosecutors and the defense team for a Greenwood doctor charged in a murder-for-hire case will talk to a forensic psychiatrist at a state mental hospital about bringing in another doctor to assist in the evaluation of Dr. Arnold Smith.

U.S. Supreme Court refuses to hear petition of man convicted in Jackson County double murder

JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear a post-conviction petition from a Mississippi man convicted in 2005 in a double homicide in Jackson County.

The Supreme Court let stand Monday, without comment, the dismissal of the petition filed by James Paul Dahl. Dahl’s arguments for seeking approval for a post-conviction appeal were denied by a panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in January.

Dahl was convicted of two counts of capital murder for the 2003 deaths of Harold Neal and Sheryl Sellers. He was sentenced to life without parole on both counts… […]

Jackson man who helped video sexual assault of 4-year-old sentenced to 23 years in prison

JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — A man was sentenced Monday to more than 23 years in prison for a sexual assault on a 4-year-old girl and making a video of the attack with another man who was also convicted in the case.

Jemery Atral Hodges, 26, pleaded guilty in June to two counts. He was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Jackson.

PEARL, MS – WLBT reports the Pearl Police Department is asking for help in identifying two suspects accused of stealing several tablets from Walmart.

Police say the thefts happened Monday at approximately 11:44 p.m. The Samsung Galaxy 3 tablets were worth $2,160.
