Jackson State disappoints fans in home opener

After being on the road to open the season for three consecutive weeks, JSU played their first home game in front of an announced crowd of over 20,000. Low numbers since the last time Southern came to Jackson. Saturday’s (Sept. 22) game against Southern was a great example of how Tiger fans are feeling. Let me explain. At this point in the season, die hard fans expected to be at least 2 & 2 after Saturday, not 1 & 3.

Crystal Springs rallies to win in Canton

The game almost looked like a scrimmage because everything was so similar between the two schools. Same colors. Same school initials for the most part. Same mascot. Same songs played by the band. One noticable difference: Canton has a drill team and Crystal Springs doesn’t.

Mississippi State ranked, still not satisfied

There was no big celebration when Mississippi State entered the national rankings on Sunday. It’s another indication of how much things have changed for the Bulldogs.

Gulfport FB coach hospitalized after game

The football coach at Gulfport High School was hospitalized after a heart attack that may have started during a game. Mike Justice remained hospitalized Sunday at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport.

Justice complained of chest pains at halftime Friday, when Gulfport led Oak Grove 14-13, and went to the emergency room early Saturday, assistant athletic director Donny Fuller told The Sun Herald. […]

Shane Carden threw for 171 yards and a touchdown and East Carolina capitalized on three third-quarter turnovers to beat Southern Mississippi 24-14 Saturday in the Conference USA opener for both teams.

Coach: MSU player received money from booster

A football coach in Tennessee said he saw Mississippi State freshman defensive back Will Redmond receive money from a booster during the recruiting process.

Byron De’Vinner, who coaches a 7-on-7 team during the summer in Nashville, Tenn., said he witnessed a “handshake” worth about $200 and that former Mississippi State assistant coach Angelo Mirando knew about the payment. […]

Murrah embarrasses Callaway in “JPS SUPER BOWL”

The hype of this matchup started the first week of school via twitter. That’s right, TWITTER. Callaway and Murrah seniors raged a verbal warfare that lasted about 48 hours with both sides eventually saying, “See you September 7th.”
Around 11 p.m. Aug. 31, the battle resumed. More people were involved this time. All grades, faculty, and even alumni were all invited to weigh in on the battle. While the verbal jabs were serious and quite comical at times, everything went to another level Sept. 5. Murrah was vandalized.
