Stun gun death case ruling upheld by appeals court

JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — A federal appeals court panel has denied a Mississippi family’s request to reinstate their multimillion dollar wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Cleveland, Miss., and two police officers.

The lawsuit was filed by the family of Jermaine Williams, who died in 2010 after being jolted twice by police stun guns. The family sought $25 million in damages.

Jim Hood joins in call for tough rules on e-cigarettes

JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood has joined 39 other attorneys general in urging the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to regulate electronic cigarettes in the same way it regulates tobacco products.

Rains bring at least 4 tornadoes to Mississippi, break dry spell

JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — At least four tornadoes were part of a rainy system that moved across Mississippi Friday night and Saturday morning.

Officials reported tornadoes in Adams, Rankin, Simpson and Smith counties. Weather Service officials said they know of no injuries from any of the storms.

New Orleans-bound Amtrak train collides with 18-wheeler in Holmes County

TCHULA, Mississippi -(AP) — Officials are investigating an accident Tuesday involving Amtrak’s City of New Orleans train and an 18-wheeler in Mississippi.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said the train was headed to New Orleans with 152 passengers and 11 crew members when the accident occurred in Holmes County about 9:30 a.m.
