Deadbeat Dad Sentenced for Failing to Pay Child Support

JACKSON – Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood said a Rankin County man has answered in court for his failure to financially support his child. Alan Keith Moon pled guilty and was sentenced for Felony Non-Support of a Child before Rankin County Circuit Court Judge William Chapman, III.

The Judge sentenced Moon to two counts of Felony Non-Support of a Child. Moon was sentenced to 10 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC), with 37 days of imprisonment, and nine years and 328 days of Supervised Post-Release Supervision.

During the first two years of the 10 years sentence, Moon is to pay an additional $200 a month on top of his regular child support obligation until paid in full. The defendant will also pay court costs. His total arrearage amount is $23,000.

“From the bench, the Judge scolded the defendant, and imposed a 9 + year term of Court order supervised probation by the Mississippi Department of Corrections,” said Attorney General Hood. “I have no doubt that Judge Chapman will throw him in jail for the full term, if he fails to pay up.”
