Trigger man turns himself in

Bolivar County officials said a man suspected of shooting eight people outside a Gunnison night club over the Labor Day weekend has turned himself in to authorities. Kewan Evans was charged with eight counts of aggravated assault after authorities said he fired at least 10 shots into a crowd after he was denied entry into the club.

Another suspect, Torriantaie Cooper, has also been arrested and charged with assault in the case.

Authorities said Club Platinum was hosting a private Labor Day party last weekend when Evans, Cooper and a third suspect tried to enter the club. All three men refused to be searched by club security and they were turned away at the door.

Authorities said the three men walked to the street and Evans, the alleged trigger man, fired at least 10 rounds at the club’s entrance striking six women and two men.

Two of the victims were reportedly in critical condition after being shot in the back.

Bond for Evans was set at $80,000.

The investigation is ongoing.

Hollandale under boil water notice

A broken water line has forced Hollandale officials to issue their second boil-water notice in recent months. Town officials issued the notice on Tuesday due to a break in the line on the north end of town.

Residents are urged to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before drinking, or using the water to cook or wash dishes. Water for laundry, showers or baths does not have to be boiled, town officials said.

Officials said a boil water notice is issued whenever there is a loss of water pressure due to leaks or a shutdown, and there is the threat of harmful bacteria or other contaminates polluting the water.

If consumed, the bacteria could cause illness and in severe cases, death.
