Shot fired in boy’s bathroom

Jackson Police have arrested a 17-year old boy for allegedly firing a gun at school. Lorenzo Hemphill was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and discharging a firearm on school property after authorities said he reportedly fired a .22 caliber handgun inside the boys’ bathroom at Wingfield High School on Feb. 10.

Police were called to the school at 1985 Scanlon Drive about 8:20 a.m., Feb. 10, in response to a shots fired call made by Jackson Public School Security.

An initial investigation revealed that Hemphill and two other subjects were in the boys’ bathroom when Hemphill allegedly showed them the gun before firing one round.

Hemphill was questioned by detectives and taken into custody. He was later transported to the Raymond Detention Center.

Woman in shower when burglar breaks in

A Columbus woman was in the shower when police said she heard a noise and saw a man climbing inside her window. Authorities said the incident occurred at the woman’s residence in the 800 block of Alabama Street. The woman was in the shower about 7:44 a.m., when she heard a noise and went to the back of the house to investigate.

Officer Terrie Songer said that’s when the woman reportedly saw Rodney Wayne Shaw climbing through a broken sliding glass window. Police said Shaw allegedly broke the window to gain entry into the home.

The woman ran next door to a neighbor’s house and called 911. When officers arrived on the scene, Shaw was still in the residence and he was arrested without incidence.

Shaw, who reportedly has an extensive criminal history, was charged with burglary and larceny of a dwelling and his bond was set at $5,000.

Police looking for man who threatened mom

Columbus police are looking for a man who allegedly called his mother and then threatened her with bodily harm. Jalain Cunningham, of the 2000 block of 3rd Avenue North, allegedly threatened his mother with harassing and threatening calls and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Police said they are looking for Cunningham and he is considered dangerous. Anyone spotting him is urged not to approach him, but to call 911 or CrimeStoppers.
